Dexter appears to be a thriller series. One of the first things we notice from looking at the opening scene is that the main character could be quite a dangerous man and could possibly be some sort of assassin. The camera uses an extreme close up of the mosquito on his arm, the shows us from his eyes and the concentration he has on it, hence why the camera has blurred out everything else.
Here shows the title of Dexter, from looking at this we can tell this series will most likely include blood as it has blood dripping off the letters. The rest of the background is fairly plain, it looks quite old fashioned, this implies the could be a part of mystery included from a while ago. The letters are also written in red, this could represent danger and death.
This shots shows a close up of the man shaving. He appears to be holding the razor very firmly to his neck, he has also got his other hand holding back his neck, this could represent there to be violence further in the programme, the blade held firmly to his neck and also holding his neck back hints this.
This image shows drops on blood going down the drain. The camera has used an extreme close up of the blood. They have done this to emphasise on the blood, the conveys life being drained away, it shows that there is likely to be forms of violence throughout the film.
This image shows a knife cutting through a packet of meat. This represents death in some way, the knife aggressively being cut through the packet implies that the man cutting through it is dangerous. The other image shows an extreme close up of him eating, this could be seen as a symbol of danger implying he could be a baddy. Him eating a substantial meal also suggests he needs the energy to do something important.
This next shot show an extreme close up of him tying up his shoe laces, he is shown to be holding the laces very firmly, this show him to be strong. Overall this shows this man to be discrete throughout the opening scene to keep the audience guessing, hence why they don't show his full face.
